Entering the roaring 20’s we have decided to look back at some of the top moments from the last 10 years. There have been so many incredible moments from underdog upsets to history-making champions.
It’s been hard to choose; this decade has provided so many memorable moments. Here are a few of our favourites.
Leicester City winning the Premier League
One of the most surprising title winners in the history of the Premier League. At the start of the 2015/16 season, Leicester City were 5000/1 to win the title after finishing 14th the season before.
Stand out performances from Kante, Vardy, Mahrez, Schmeichel made the impossible dream come true.
It will go down as one of the most memorable seasons.
England Winning the Cricket World Cup
We always enjoy England winning a World Cup even if it rarely happens.
The dramatic final with New Zealand was tied across 50 overs and the tie-breaking super oversaw England lifting the trophy at England’s home of cricket.
The hero Ben Stokes who needed 15 runs from 4. Stokes hit a six, then got a very fortunate boundary after hitting an incoming ball and finally getting a few runs to send the match to a Super Over. The Super Over saw England stop New Zealand from reaching their target and all their hard work was rewarded.
Tiger Woods winning the 2019 Masters
One of the greatest comeback stories is Tiger winning the 2019 Masters. Tiger Woods overcame years of injuries and multiple surgeries to wear the Green Jacket again. He had not won a major since 2008 and had not won the Masters since 2005.
Unlike his prior 14 major wins, the 2019 Masters was the first time he had to rally to win a major. Previously, Woods was either tied or ahead going into the last round.
Connor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather
Billed as one of the fights of the decade. Mayweather who had a record of 49-0 coming into the fight and often named as the best defensive boxer ever, fighting against the confident and charismatic McGregor.
The fight saw the unbeaten boxer taken on the UFC fighter in a boxing match. The contest recorded the second highest pay-per-view buy rate in history selling 4.3million buys in North America.
Mayweather stopped McGregor in the 10th round by technical knockout.
Longest Tennis match in history
Wimbledon 2010 saw the longest tennis match in history. The match spanned over three days and 11 hours.
John Isner took on Nicolas Mahut in what, till-date is the longest ever match in tennis history it is often referred to as “the endless match”.
Isner held his nerve at the end to break Mahut's serve and win the match on a day when the 2nd round matches had already begun.
It is difficult to imagine any match breaking this record for a very long time.
Cleveland Cavaliers 3-1 Comeback
The Cavs became the first team in NBA finals history to overcome a 3-1 deficit.
Led by Lebron James they managed to overcome the Golden State Warriors and winning away from home in Oakland. Inspired performances from Kyrie Irving and Lebron James saw Cleveland win their first NBA Championship.
Super Saturday at London 2012
The Olympics in London promised to be a great one and on August 4th it delivered.
In the morning Great Britain won three medals in men’s rowing, women’s double sculls and women’s cycling team pursuit. This was the start of a memorable day.
In the evening of Athletics, Team GB added more gold medals to the growing collection. Greg Rutherford, Jessica Ennis and Mo Farah all won their events within 44 minutes of each other.
The day ended as Britain's best Olympic day in 104 years.
Andy Murray winning Wimbledon
A great day in British tennis saw Andy Murray winning Wimbledon in 2013. Andy won his first Wimbledon title and ended Britain's 77-year wait for a men's champion.
The final saw The Scot win in a straight-sets victory over Novak Djokovic.
He later won Wimbledon again in 2016 beating Milos Raonic and winning his third major.
Wiggins winning Tour de France
Bradley Wiggins made history and became a British sporting hero as he became the first Briton to win the Tour de France in 2012.
After time-trail success on the final Saturday gave him an unassailable lead in the world’s most famous road race, Wiggins’ ride along the Champs Elysees was nothing more than a victory parade, with thousands of Britons there to mark the moment of history.
Bradley won by three minutes and 21 seconds and followed it up with another Olympic gold at London 2012.
An incredible achievement.
Simone Biles at 2016 Olympics
Simone Biles is an incredible gymnast and at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, she showed this. Simone won three individual gold medals in the vault and floor exercise events, as well as the all-around and team gold.
The four golds tied the record for a female gymnast in a single Olympic Games.
Biles also has done something no other gymnast has done. She completed a triple-double, meaning she did a double backflip with three twists — a move known as the Biles II.
The past decade has been great and some of these moments will live forever, we are looking forward to seeing what the next decade will bring.
